audience of One

i have read a few things (posted on the internet by people i know) this week that have rubbed me the wrong way. my first impression was that i didn’t like what was said. after some further thought i realized i didn’t like these statements and ideas not because of the actual content, but because of the intentions in which they were posted-to elicit sympathy or compliments or to feel better about themselves in some way.

today i read this quote posted on the internet by another person:

“If our goal is to create a human audience to hold us in high esteem, we have wasted our time to hold Him as the highest esteem in our lives.”

whether in a personal or internet context, that is a convicting statement. simple. motivating. i will be thinking about that one for a while.
